Job Description and Duties

In this ITS I role, you’ll be part of the team that helps departments use the FI$Cal system effectively. You provide Level 2 support, which means you look into system issues, analyze what’s happening, and work with users to get their questions or incident tickets re solved quickly. A big part of the job is communicating with end-users, understanding their needs, and helping them navigate challenges in the system.

You’ll also develop strong expertise as the subject matter expert for the Labor Distribution module — the part of FI$Cal that tracks and assigns labor costs. As you grow in the role, you may also support other areas like Accounts Receivable, Billing, General Ledger and more. This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys problem-solving, learning complex systems, and helping people work more efficiently through technology.

Most of your work falls within Business Technology Management, but you may support other IT domains as needed. This role is great for someone who enjoys problem-solving, customer support, and working where technology and business intersect.

Please note that to be list appointed for placement in the Information Technology Specialist I classification, you must take and pass the examination .

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. Working Conditions

At FI$Cal, we are compliant with the Governors executive order, N22-025, requiring staff to be in office 4 or more days per week. In-office attendance is mandatory on designated days and is subject to change. Our office is located at 2000 Evergreen Street, Sacramento, CA. Candidates residing outside of California are welcome to interview, but proof of California residency is required before appointment. Please note, relocation and commute expenses are the responsibility of the employee. 

This position requires prolonged sitting in an office-setting environment with the use of a personal computer. Employees must demonstrate a commitment to maintain a working environment free from discrimination and sexual harassment. All staff must maintain regular, consistent, predictable attendance, maintain good working habits and adhere to all policies and procedures. 

Applicants must be authorized to work in the US at all times during their employment with the Department of FISCal.

The Department of FISCal does not :

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.

• The incumbent will use tact and interpersonal skills to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, e.g., stakeholders, customers, management, peers, etc., to facilitate communication to improve the work environment and increase productivity.
• This position requires the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and may require excess hours to be worked.  
• The incumbent is expected to perform functions and duties under the guidance of the Department of FISCal’s core values.
• The incumbent provides back-up, as necessary, to ensure continuity of departmental activities.
• This position may require the use of a hand-cart to transport documents and/or equipment over 20 pounds.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Professional or State Accounting experience
• FI$Cal System / Departmental End-User  experience
• Application Support/Operations &  Maintenance experience
• Module experience in the areas of General  Ledger, Labor distribution
• Experience with functional Testing, Quality  Assurance and Documentation of  issues/resolutions
• Technical analysis/SQL queries, Database  query experience
• Training and/or presentation experience

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and must be submitted with your application. The SOQ serves as a documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing.

The SOQ must be typed in 12-point Arial font and be no more than 2pages in length with correct grammar use, punctuation and spelling. Your SOQ must address the following:

Please describe how your experience, education and training qualifies you for the ITS I role.  Be sure to include any working experience to support Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, and highlight at least three of your qualifications in relation to the desirable qualifications section and duty statement.
