The Information Technology Specialist I plays a critical role in supporting the infrastructure that powers the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal), providing technical leadership and expertise in server administration. This position is responsible for the evaluation, design, implementation, configuration, maintenance, and lifecycle management of enterprise server hardware, operating systems, virtualization platforms, storage solutions, cloud services, and related technologies.
Working collaboratively with internal teams, vendors, and business partners, the incumbent provides advanced technical expertise to support complex infrastructure, resolve technical issues, implement innovative solutions, and ensure the security, reliability, and availability of FI$Cal’s technology environment. From planning and implementation through ongoing operations and continuous improvement, this position plays a vital role in maintaining a stable, resilient, and high-performing enterprise infrastructure that supports FI$Cal’s statewide mission.Please note that to be list appointed for placement in the Information Technology Specialist I classification, you must take and pass the examination .
Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract.
